Volunteers

We opened this house to volunteers in 2025 and we keep it open, in rounds, a few people at a time. Our listings are on Workaway and Worldpackers; when a round is open, it is posted there and we will say so here.

This is how we host. A shared room; one kitchen, and we all eat the same; a house kept by everyone who sleeps in it, the two of us included.

We like people and we like talking, but when we sit down with you we are all there — and we cannot be all there every night, so we don't try. Two or three evenings in the week we sit down to dinner together, properly. The rest of the time we are mostly working, and the shared space is yours to be at home in.

We are looking for people for whom some of this is already true, in a small way, in their own lives — it does not have to look like ours; a jar of something fermenting on a city windowsill counts. Non-smokers only. English is our working language; Japanese is welcome but not needed.

One thing we no longer offer: residencies where you propose your own program. If that is what you are looking for, we are not the right place.
